The Sanctuary Housing Group
The Sanctuary Housing Group was appointed by Renew North Staffordshire as lead partner for the City Centre South Area of Major Intervention in 2005. Since becoming lead partner the Association has delivered a range of regeneration initiatives across the area:
- Developed and managed two community centres
- Managed two Neighbourhood Worker projects
- Acquired and refurbished almost 100 properties
- Delivered a range of property specific refurbishment works including replacement boundary walls, canopies and external painting to over 350 homes across 5 neighbourhoods
- Provided a range of additional security measures including replacement doors and windows to over 40 properties
- Worked with Community BASE to develop a community modelling initiative
The Association has also delivered a range of community capacity building initiatives, including:
- Educational arts projects involving local schools and colleges
- Luncheon clubs and afternoon teas
- Educational "seeing is believing" trips involving local schools
- Regeneration themed barge trips for local councillors and steering group members
- Training for Steering Group members on issues such as masterplanning, community cohesion, and effective community representation
The Association will continue to deliver regeneration and capacity building initiatives throughout 2008/09. For example, the Association will work with an appointed architect to develop a scheme for the Pyenest St clearance area. The Association will also deliver a range of property specific refurbishment measures in Areas 4 & 5 of the City Waterside area. Full community consultation for these projects will take place.
